Rowan Kang (Korean, 1958) showed his first signs of artistic talent as a young boy in Kwang-Ju, Korea, his birthplace and also a nationally center of the arts. Surrounded by such an artistic environment with the heritage of the arts passed along from generations before, it was not long into elementary school when he began to win art contests. In junior high school, an art teacher nominated Rowan for an art scholarship to high school. Studying under this scholarship, he refined his talent through drawing and watercolor lessons. During this time he gained notice through winning national art contests.
