What an obscure band, I have never ever read anything about save a review in Heavy oder was!? GRAVEN IMAGE are from KANSAS, which isn't the pinnacle of Metal, as far as I know. But the guys wouldn't care anyway, because the music they create is anything but trendy. As if they were stuck in the 70s, GRAVEN IMAGE celebrate their odd Metal, which could roughly be compared to old BLACK SABBATH, PENTAGRAM, CIRITH UNGOL or MANILLA ROAD.
But any comparison doesn't really work. Too original is their stuff, which mostly is very epic, full of heroic sagas and warrior-tales. The best song, in my opinion, is "Leif's Saga", a true gem, which is oozing of magic and atmosphere. Acoustic guitars play an important role in the sound of GRAVEN IMAGE. Another eargasm is titled "The Search" and is an incredible song, which is almost exalted. Here you will not find any double-bass-orgies, the vocalist doesn't scream in highest heights nor does he grunt like a pig. He rather sounds nasal, a bit like Ozzy Osbourne, but these vocals just add the certain something to the whole.
I think this CD is dead-original and I will try anything to get an interview with the band. Who wants to listen to "different Metal" and be immersed in the fantasy-world of GRAVEN IMAGE, get this one!
