Progarchives info
Ghiribizzi is a Belgian symphonic prog band whose first album Zep Tepi was released in 2001 when they were a trio of guitars, keys, and keys/drums. They then added three musicians so that Panta Rhei (2005, 75-minutes) has three keyboardists in the lineup as well as a dedicated bassist and drummer. Even so, the keyboards and guitar are in balance. The music is melodic and has been described as a cross between early Marillion and Kayak. It isn’t overly Marillion-influenced, but the lead vocalist does have some Fish character in his voice and delivery. Or think of Kayak’s Max Werner with his voice shifted down into Fish’s frequency range. The music does have aspects of Kayak but is more bombastic and modern, meaning hard-edged. With four members who sing, there are frequent harmony vocals, majestic in a Queen sort of way.
Circuit Rewiring (2010) sees some personnel changes but no major shift in style.
The music is very upbeat, sort of a streamlined version of Kayak and Machiavel (before those bands streamlined their own sound). Ghiribizzi is to Kayak/Machiavel as Saga is to Genesis. |
